Hope Can Be Paralyzing

I recently met a young man named James. He became homeless after getting evicted from his apartment. I asked him why he was evicted and the young man explained to me that he stopped looking for work when one of the people who interviewed him, told James that he got to job. But his start date kept being pushed off and finally James asked a different person, why he has not even filled out any paper work. The new person apologized to James and explained to him that the company fired the person who said that James was hired, which resulted in another person getting the job that James was offered. If James did not have reason to believe that he had the job he wouldn't have stopped looking and may have found something to pay his rent. For this reason, people say hope is paralyzing.

But hope is only paralyzing if we let it be. While it may be difficult for a parent to move on after a child's abduction, it may be best for the welfare of the family to spend time grieving together so that the other children don't feel left out and understand the fullness of the loss. The act of grieving is a natural process that helps people move on with their lives. Should the child be returned safely to the family, the returning child should be allowed to grieve and heal together with the family. Many of our homeless youth are survivors of a childhood abduction. Which could mean that the family will not know the child much less have anything in common with the child being returned to them. Such a child will most likely have developed behavioral problems that will not be addressed by hoping them away.

If the family is to fully recover from the loss, they must first recover from the effect of the child’s return. To do this every one involved must be patient and willing to talk and work through all of the issues that will come up. Otherwise the family is putting all of their faith in the false hope that things will change over time with out doing anything to change those things. James could have avoided becoming homeless if he would have kept on looking for work. Instead he gave into the idea that he could relax because he was told he had a job. Likewise the family of a runaway or abducted child could easily fall into the idea that every thing is going to be the way is was before that child left. If that happens, the family becomes unstable and it becomes more than likely that the child would just runaway again. Your hope must be rooted in a love through diligence and with such love comes change.

I got a chance to talk to a group of Occupiers as they call them selves. I asked them what their opinion of Obama was. One of them said, “he is a pussy!” When he saw that I was surprised to hear what the Occupier said he then continued, “don't you know, that his spineless administration is what Occupy is protesting.” The young man explained how his generation wanted to believe in Obama and his Hope And Change platform in 2008. But now he has to fulfill his promises. The young man did not understand what his vote would do and now he regrets it. Our Nation has been held captive by the socialistic hope for too long. The Occupy movement has no real leadership so they look like hippies just complaining. Yet if you talk to the group that I did they would tell you that the Democrats are the reason Occupy exists in America. I wonder if Occupy is what the Sons of Liberty would have looked like today. Hope is paralyzing unless we do something our selves to bring about change.

In a short while I will be going to make phone calls to people I don't know for that is my job. Each call is potentially a sale. I make a commission off of any sell. The whole thing forces me to step out of my comfort zone and try to grow. Trust me when I say, change is never easy. Just like this job America is going through some growing panes and I fear that once the protesting is over things could get violent. At least while the protesting is going on, we know where the people are. After all HOPE is paralyzing unless we do something our selves to bring about change, and I can't think of any protesting that did not end in blood. Part of me roots for Occupy but I am glad that they didn't have and real leadership, otherwise America would be under marshal law.
